We will discuss a few reasons why renting portable generators can be difficult. There are many different uses for portable generators, but most people do not feel that it is necessary to purchase a portable generator of their own to have available whenever they need it. If they think about it at all, their plan is usually to simply rent a portable generator whenever the need arises. Unfortunately, running out to a nearby store to rent a portable generator is not always the best idea because renting one can be quite difficult for several reasons.
One of the main reasons that it might be difficult to rent a portable generator in a time of need is that, more than likely, many other people are going to be sharing that sudden need at the same time. A perfect example of this is when a bad storm causes a power outage in a community or a whole city.
At first, the residents might not worry about having no power because they think that the power outage will be resolved quickly and things will go back to normal. However, when the power outage extends into several days or weeks, there is the problem of refrigerated and frozen food going bad as well as other issues.
This situation can be even worse if it is cold outside because the people would be without heat in their homes since furnaces also need electricity to function. Then everyone comes up with the same solution of renting a portable generator to at least keep the bare minimum of their electrical appliances running until full power is restored. Of course, rental sites in local stores do not keep large quantities of portable generators in stock so it is likely that they will run out of them very quickly and some people will be left without a power source until the outage is resolved.
Another problem that people might run into that makes renting a portable generator difficult is the fact that it is important to get the proper size of portable generator. The size of the portable generator is listed as its wattage and it is based on how much electricity it will provide. It is difficult for some people to calculate the wattage that is needed in order to choose the proper portable generator for running all of the appliances that they need to keep on in their home.
Renting a portable generator that is too small to handle the job could cause it to break down and leave them without a source of power again. Even if they do manage to get it all calculated out properly and determine which portable generator size will fill their needs, it still might be difficult to rent that generator size because not all rental facilities carry enough of each size of the portable generators.
Although they are relatively small, keeping several of each size available would take up a lot of space at the store. There is also the added expensive of having all of the various portable generators available even though some of them are rarely rented out.
